Successful Disease Management Programs Can Play Role In Health Care Reform
A study of the award-winning Behavioral Pharmacy Management Program (BPM) shows the private-public Medicaid partnership program has helped improve patient care while saving eight states almost $95 million in behavioral health pharmaceutical costs. Lilly funds the program, which is designed and run by research firm Comprehensive NeuroScience, Inc. (CNS) at the sole direction and guidance of state Medicaid departments. The BPM, which has been executed in more than half of the states, has won a variety of national awards, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Science and Service Award, URAC Silver Award for Best Practices in Consumer Empowerment and Protection, American Psychiatric Association Bronze Achievement Award and Disease Management Association of America Gold Award.

Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. reported that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") for its Abbreviated New Drug Application ("ANDA") for cetirizine hydrochloride tablets (OTC), 5 mg and 10 mg ("Cetirizine Tablets"). The product will be marketed by Taro"s U.S. affiliate, Taro Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc.

New Clinical Research Organization Established In West Palm Beach, Florida

Executive vice president is pharmaceutical industry veteran Arthur Simon, Ph.D. Though new in name, Palm Beach CRO - a clinical research organization recently formed in West Palm Beach, Florida - is headed by a veteran pharmacologist and clinical research executive: Arthur Simon, Ph.D. Palm Beach CRO is an outgrowth of Palm Beach Research Center, a contract clinical research facility that has conducted more than 500 clinical trials in its 15-year history and has worked with more than 110 pharmaceutical companies. Palm Beach CRO was created in December of 2008, and Dr. Simon named as executive vice president, to offer pharmaceutical companies and their executives a new option for outsourcing the overall management and supervision of clinical trials, including multi-center trials. Services provided by Palm Beach CRO run the gamut from site evaluation, protocol preparation and site documentation to site closeout and data management and analysis. As executive vice president, Dr. Simon brings more than 30 years of pharmaceutical research and development experience to the position. He spent 24 years as president and CEO of Research Testing Laboratories, Inc. in Great Neck, NY, a hybrid research company consisting of a site management organization (SMO) and a contract clinical research organization (CRO) with more than 100 employees. Dr. Simon directed all aspects of RTL"s clinical research activities for Rx, OTC, biotechnology, nutraceuticals, and medical devices.
